Adeboye, a Church leader in Nigeria, has sparked outrage and serves as a sobering reminder of the ethical challenges that accompany our online activities, especially in a very sensitive society like ours.
Adeboye was depicted in a fabricated image wearing an Islamic scarf, falsely suggesting a religious alignment inconsistent with his faith. Such an act goes beyond the bounds of humour or creativity—it is an affront to truth, a deliberate attempt to sow confusion, and an insult to both the individual and the communities he represents.
This incident not only undermines the integrity of AI as a tool for innovation but also highlights the dangers of weaponizing technology to distort reality and perpetuate misinformation.
The Bible teaches that we will give an account for every idle word and action (Matthew 12:36). Similarly, those who misuse technology for malicious purposes should recognise the far-reaching consequences of their actions—both ethically and legally. Creating and spreading false narratives damages social harmony, fosters mistrust, and can even lead to unintended violence or hostility.
