I am writing a more extensive post on Sammie Okposo, how I met him in the 1990s, our friendship, my discussions with him on the scandal, etc. I will post that when the mourning and stupid blame of the Church go down.
But I must quickly warn these enemies of the Church who live to bash the Church and Pastors at every opportunity. They contend that the Church abandoned Okposo because he fell into adultery. Meanwhile, they forgot that Okposo himself voluntarily stepped out of the limelight. He said he would leave the scene to purge himself of his sin. The right thing all Christians should do.
These abusers and accusers of the Church are now holding the church responsible for his stepping out. Funny! These are the same people who would shout themselves hoarse if any Church had invited Okposo to perform at the wake of the scandal.
I would like to ask them a question: if Sammie had organised a seminar or a concert in the wake of the scandal, would they attend? These same abusers of the Church would be the first to crucify him for not being remorseful enough. They would ask what morality has he to step up as a teacher. Does he want to teach people how to commit adultery?
The same people shedding crocodile tears for Okposo are the same ones abusing Johnson Suleiman, blasting tithes and tithers! Their noise about Okposo is not just for the love of him. It’s sheer scapegoatism to put the Church down. Know what? Despite all the imperfections in the Church, the gates of hell shall not prevail against us. We are marching on.
Jesus Christ had only 12 congregations for three and a half years. He still had a thief and the doubting Thomas. God, despite His perfections, also had Lucifer and his agents. If God and Jesus experienced it, what makes the 21st Century Church different?
At every opportunity, these abusers would assail the Church as if their lives were any better. It is so strange that the abusers of the Church are not the Abubakar, Mohammed, Tajudeen, Memunat, Aisha, Umoru but the Simon, Andrew, Peter, John, Steve, Lydia, Mike, Agnes, Stephanie, etc. They come online to ridicule the foundation that gave them their identity.
Rather than engage in constructive construction of the body of Christ, they turn themselves into negative instruments that impede soul-winning, the passion and heartbeat of God. They encourage people to persist in sin by turning the Church into a menu they feast on and toothpick on after. If only these abusers know the agony, they cause God. You abusers and accusers of the brethren!
