My journey to the three-part prophetic ministration tagged “Darkness Descending” started over two decades ago in 2002. I stayed briefly in the home of Solomon Onita and his lovely wife, Lola, in Houston, Texas.
My host, a very accommodating and unassuming man, was a pioneering member of the Jesus House, Redeem Christian Church of God, Houston, Texas.
I believe their son, Solomon Onita Jnr, who was then a geeky teenager is now a very famous film producer in the United States.
What would have been an uneventful but pleasant stay in their home became a major landmark in my spiritual odyssey because there was a great conflict in my mind then.
In my mission fields of northern Nigeria, Christians were being persecuted and killed in large numbers while the Church in the southern end of the country and the Lagos Church, in particular, were living in total ease, oblivious of the terrible persecutions just one flight away.
I could perceive that there were two different spirits at work in the northern and southern Churches, but this sounded bizarre.
One day in the Onita homestead, an authoritative preacher’s voice with a guttural Ondo accent rang out in the Yoruba language, followed by the sotto voice of his interpreter, and a fire pierced my heart.
“Nipa eso won, l’aofi mo won! It was a message in Mathew chapter 7 on evil fruits, good fruits and corrupted fruits.
Pa Josiah Akindayomi was expounding on the dilemma of a confident multitude of Christians that would be rejected and barred from entry into the kingdom of Heaven.
These deluded brethren reeled out the great works they had done in the Church setting but Jesus Christ identified them as workers of iniquity.
“Darkness Descending” is a spiritual alarm because this is where the Nigerian Church is at present. Despite its massive Church empires and mega-sized Churches, the Body of Christ is very weak, ineffectual and inconsequential in our national affairs.
“Darkness Descending” is a spiritual alarm because this is where the Nigerian Church is at present. Despite its massive Church empires and mega-sized Churches, the Body of Christ is very weak, ineffectual and inconsequential in our national affairs.
We may have evangelised many and produced Church members in millions, but we have few mature kingdom citizens and failed to make a disciple of our nation.
Darkness has covered the land and gross darkness on the people, but the good news is that Nigeria still has a prophetic date with destiny, and there shall be a great turnaround if we awake from our spiritual slumber.
All said and done, the destiny of Nigeria is not in the hands of politicians, tribunals or the courts of justice but the decision that the Church will make in the days ahead.
DARKNESS DESCENDING Part 1 …
The Ark has been captured by Dagon and the Philistines, but this cannot be the end of the story.
Instead of making excuses, mouthing pious irrelevances and creating demonic diversions, the Nigerian Church must admit that we have failed God. The darkness of corruption has no respect for the light that we carry.
Working as a pawn within a larger spiritual construct, it is undebatable that Bola Ahmed Tinubu knocked out the Nigerian Church with one hand tied behind his back.
From the prophetic perspective, Jeremiah was not surprised when Judah fell to King Nebuchadnezzar if anything, we should rejoice because we are standing on the threshold of apostolic fulfilment.
Pa Granville Sydney Elton spoke about the turning point from corruption to righteousness, and we have arrived.
There are, however, seven important things that the Church must take note of that we have spelt out here.
Robbed of the past, a people will settle for just any future, and the Nigerian Church has forgotten that our nation started out as a divine seed in 1837 during an all-night prayer session.
This is why a special independence bible was launched to serve as an ebenezer or reminder to all the future that the Church paid a huge price for Nigeria to become a reality.
DARKNESS DESCENDING Part 2 …
Reeling out the seven important things with an emphasis on the 4th point being the spiritual message coded into that special Independence Bible for the Church today.
We must take a breather to mention a few of the great hearts who gave up their lives to serve God and their country until Nigeria was birthed on the 1st of October, 1960.
From Mary Slessor and Thomas Birch Freeman all the way to Mallam Ibrahim of Kano, who Emir Aliyu beheaded in the early nineteen hundred for his religious tolerance.
We bring reminders of Ajayi Crowther, kidnapped by the same Fulani in 1821 yet returned to serve God and even had a conversation in 1857 with Fulani slaver king Sumo Zaki and his half-brother Dasaba.
Nigerians must not forget the work we did to stop human sacrifices, the killing of twins and several other heinous and barbaric practices, all towards the day of Nigeria’s birth.
So, the preposterous idea of a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket and the corrupted democratic selection system that sidelined our faith in a nation with more than 100 million professing Christians is a slur that has to be addressed.
DARKNESS DESCENDING Part 3 … is simply explosive!
After exposing Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the embodiment of corruption in Nigeria, we dwell on the serious existential threats to our collective future.
This includes Bola Ahmed’s positioning of a boko haram sponsor just one heartbeat away from the seat of the Nigerian presidency.
Of graver concern, however, are the seismic political movements that have created an imbalance in the inherited colonial equations that were crafted to keep us failing without falling.
The floodgates of hell have been opened, and we must move to prevent a genocide of proportions never experienced in Africa.
To conclude this episode, we promise to open up the “WAY of PEACE” and reveal the solution of “ETERNAL TRUTHS” as projected by Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa on the 7th of October in 1960 when he looked into the future and saw the troubles ahead.
The single most important ingredient in the mix that will resolve all the existential threats of Nigeria is the total lack of fear of death, and this should be the preserve of the Church.
The next three episodes will be tagged “Righteousness Rising” and available as you sign up with OraklesTV.
