Adamawa State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza, on Sunday, during a Press Conference at the Catholic Secretariat in Yola, said the plan of some political parties in the country to adopt a presidential Christian-Christian or Muslim-Muslim ticket as undemocratic and dead on arrival.
The Bishop hinted that Nigeria of today is far from Nigeria of Yesterday, where a candidate from the same religion emerges as President and Vice President, saying such a combination would never happen in today’s Nigeria, where numerous divisions have become the order of the day across the country.
The CAN chair revealed that politicians who are planning to bring such ideas,s especially in the ruling All Progressive Congress APC Party, are planning to destroy the little remaining peace and unity in the country, and that is highly discriminatory to other religions and regions of this country.
Bishop Mamza calls on the ruling All Progressive Congress APC to shelve their insensitive plan of fielding a Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2023 Presidential election.
The chairman further stated categorically clear that if such a plan were implemented, the party would lose the entire Christian voters across the country and that no amount of rigging would give the party victory.
The CAN Chair calls on political leaders in the country to find a lasting way of uniting the citizens of this country instead of bringing more divisions than what we have now.
