HAPPY FAMILY CITY … Africa’s first Christian hometown
I have found myself in situations where nobody cares about what you are doing, where no one would even ask about you, yet you are doing something you expect friends to celebrate.
So many people start something new and along the way, give up. I often wonder why they lose steam in mid trajectory. Why are they not consistent? So many startups pack up, dreams unfulfilled, hopes shattered. No consistency!
It is not every time that the dreamer did not plan right. Many did not just have the staying power because no one to ask after them, cheer them, encourage them and along the line, it’s like what they are doing is not making any meaning and they give up.
Recently, I read a short post, a line or two by my South African brother, Naledi L Matlou and my thoughts found a rhythm. His post: Be your biggest fan. Consistency is difficult when no one is clapping. Wow! So, consistency could be difficult when no one cares to cheer, no one says hello, no one says ‘Ride on brother, you are doing good.’
In 2021, I will be a cheerleader even as I want to be cheered too. I will care more about what others are doing. I will not concentrate on my dreams or family alone. No dreams of others will die around me or suffer consistency because they lack cheer men.
I invite you to join me to assist others with just words of mouth, even when you have no cash to give. Everything is not about money. A mere phone call to ask how far with their NGOs, pet projects, book project, online business, etc goes a long way. Let us be someone’s cheerleader.
And my friend, be your own biggest fan. When Facebook likes, comments, phone calls, claps, etc are not coming, learn how to be your own fan. Learn how to encourage yourself in the Lord, just like David when he lost everything and people still plan to stone him. Are you married? Learn how to carry your spouse along in everything you do in 2021. Your spouse should be your number two fan after you, the number one.
Learn from Obafemi Awolowo: the glory of man rises not when he did not fall but when he rises after each fall. When a project fails, don’t ever say you have failed. You have not failed. That project failed. You have only learnt how not to do it. Cheer yourself up and start again. Go and prosper in 2021.
I promise to tag along with you, in 2021.
