God in politics! One of the cardinal commandments the Lord gave His children is not to take His name in vain. But sadly, this is always the first commandment Christians, laities and clergies, violate.

It has gotten so bad now that without fluttering an eyelid, many Nigerian Church leaders, especially those in politics, would call that name as a witness to barefaced lies.

Many of them have a way of speaking about God that Christians begin to wonder which God are they referring to? Is it God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, or the God that another religion said has no son or which God?

I think the God the Nigerian politicians are referring to is not the same one Christians serve. Our God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, is not an author of confusion and does not tell a lie.

He does not say to Politician A that He would be president tomorrow and give the seat to Mr Z. Forever, the word of our God is settled in heaven.

GOD IN POLITICS

The god these politicians are talking about is either a liar, a shameless god, or the politicians are blatant liars themselves. I will cite some examples to corroborate my verdict.

In 2003, a pastor called Chris Okotie, who contested under Fresh Party, came on AIT and, in an interview with Jika Ato, said, “God told me that I am the next president after Obasanjo.

Obasanjo will do only one term, and he will hand over to me. God told me so.’

GOD IN POLITICSHe repeatedly reiterated that God does not lie. God told him he was taking over from Obasanjo.

He used the platform to ask Obasanjo to start preparing to hand over to him.

He told Jika Ato and us, his viewers, that we were seeing the next president. And know what, Christians, most of whom are mumu, believed him.

The word of his god fell to the ground. His promises did not come to pass. I have not had an opportunity to meet with him and ask how come his god told him a lie, and he is still worshipping him?

If that God is the same Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, he should have been in power since. It’s either you are a shameless liar, or your god is silly!

Around 2011 or 2015, Tunde Bakare, another pastor in the same Lagos, came on air and announced that God told him he would be the next president. However, this god lied again. Bakare ended up a running mate of a man who is not of the same faith.

In that same election, many pastors said, ‘God said Jonathan would be re-elected in 2015’. Others said, ‘God said Jonathan’s time was up’. Only one God fa, speaking from both sides of one mouth!

Another Nigerian prophet, a congenital liar in South Africa, said God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ told him that if Buhari contested the 2015 elections, he would die.

Buhari is about completing eight years, death is very far from him. Is this the same God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ? I doubt. It’s either these self-acclaim men of god are liars, or their god is a liar. One of the two suppositions must be right.

TUNDE BAKARE

This liar god is at work again. Tunde Bakare, having been disappointed by his lying god in 2015, is leading him again for 2023. In one of his recent broadcasts, he said he, Bakare, is the 16th president of Nigeria, Buhari will hand over to him.

A few days ago, he paid N100m to buy the form to show that his God/god never lies. The same God/god, according to Osinbajo’s camp, told Osinbajo to go and contest the presidential election. He would be president.

One god, so undecided on who will be president! This god of our politicians’ dey try o. A blatant author of confusion!

GOD IN POLITICS

* Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi.

DAVE UMAHI

Another Christian, the governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi also brought God into politics. But he was clever enough not to disgrace the God/god by saying the God/god did not tell him if he would win in 2023.

Hear him: ‘God spoke to me about running for president but did not tell me if I will win or not’

I have never seen a Muslim politician coming out to say Allah (their God) told them they would become president. They don’t joke with that name or call it in vain.

They don’t play with their Bible or trifle with the instructions therein. How come we that claim to know God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, are so foolish and reckless in toying with that name?

The worst offenders are the preachers of these new generation churches, shameless and congenital liars! People who were called by their bellies. They read the Bible and don’t practise it. They speak when God, Father our Lord Jesus Christ, has not spoken.

Despite their repeated lies and shamelessness, this generation of Christians, super mumu, deeply gullible and steeped in easy believism, will still rush to their shrine erroneously called Churches on Sundays and kneel before them for laying of hands and impartation of white lies!

Today, the reputation of the Church is in a downward spiral. My question is: can’t we do politics without portraying God as a confused liar?
