Our minds have been conditioned to believe in consulting friends, seeking the opinions of others, and checking what the majority say before making up our minds on issues.
It is usual to think that in the multitude of opinions, there is the voice and decision of God. For so many of us, this has become a kind of aphorism: majority carry the vote. The voice of the people is the voice of God.
No sir. The voice of the people or the voice of the majority is not always the voice of God. The voice of God is the voice of God. God does not work by majority. God does not need the consensus of anybody or the majority to do anything in your life. He is God!
There are so many instances in the Bible to substantiate the fact that you don’t need any majority opinion before taking decisions.
My friend, know God for yourself, hear God right and stay with God. No wonder, the wise ones have said… ‘one with God is in majority.’
Now, permit me to cite examples from the Bible to prove that you don’t need any majority opinion to hold your ground. Just be sure you know what the good book says.
JOSHUA AND CALEB
When Moses sent out 12 men to spy out the land, 10 people returned with negative reports and only two gave a different report. Eighty-three per cent said no, we cannot take the land, we are like grasshoppers in our sight and so we are in their sight, while just sixteen per cent said we are able to get the land.
The people in the wilderness went with the majority. Fear came upon them and God got angry. As a result, the entire nation was made to wander in the desert for 40 years, until almost the entire generation of men had died except the two who gave the positive report. At the end of the day, the majority was wrong. My friend, be careful with the idea of majority!
PAUL’S VOYAGE TO ITALY
Another example is in the New Testament: Paul’s voyage to Italy. To make the journey, the majority involved in the voyage had agreed that the journey would be smooth, against the prevailing situation on high sea. Only Paul, the most illiterate concerning sailing, disagreed.
According to the leading of the Holy Spirit, he warned that the voyage would end in disaster. They did not believe him. They set sailing and it ended in disaster. The majority was wrong again. My friend, be careful with the idea of majority!
GIDEON
It is also necessary to cite the example of Gideon’s war with the Midianites. He had thought that the more the soldiers, 32, 000 men, the easier for him to win the war. But the Lord showed him that the fewer, 300 men, the better for Him, lest the people think they have saved themselves by their own hands. God does not need multitudes to work. Be careful with this idea of majority!
My friend, it is very important to seek the mind of God always, not the opinion of friends and advisers. One with God is in majority!
