There is a very poor understanding of witches and wizards in this part of the world, no wonder the tremendous fear people, especially Christians, accord them. Only the power of God, through proper teachings like this interview, will open the eyes of the Church and save it from unnecessary fear-laden prayers and attitudes. In this interview, Rev. Bolu Akinyele, General Superintendent of The Infinite Power of His Resurrection Ministry, Lagos, Nigeria exposes the secrets of darkness and their operators, how and why they do what they do, drawing the ears of the youngsters in Church on how to pick spouses without falling into the ditch of witchcraft. Akinyele who has been lecturing in seminaries for over two decades also has special grace in healing and deliverance. Excerpts from the interview with e-life.
Is it true that witches exist?
There are two ways to answer this question. Whoever views it from the scientific point of view will answer it in the negative because the issue of witch and witchcraft is a spiritual one that cannot be scientifically proven. But when answered from the spiritual point of view, one will answer in the affirmative that witches do exist.
The Scriptures above do establish the existence of spiritual things. The Bible refers to witches in many books of the bible – both in the Old and the New Testaments e.g. Deuteronomy 18:10, Galatians 5:19-20, I Corinthians 2:13-15 (NKJV). Other references include Exodus 22:18; I Samuel 15:23; II Chronicles 33:6; II Kings 9:22; Micah 5:12; Nahum 3:4.
How can it be proven that witches do exist?
The existence of witches can be proven by spiritual methods. The demonic world proves that witches do exist. The demonstration of the power of God is also used to prove the existence of witches. Witch and witchcraft are openly practised in many places, e.g. Cotonou in the Republic of Benin where weird and astounding manifestations are exhibited that proves the existence of witches. Many ministers of God do have experiences and encounters with which they can prove that witches do exist.
Are witches wicked?
To explicitly answer this question, one has to explain who witches are and the purposes of their operations. Witches are human beings who practise witchcraft mostly using demonic powers or those who are influenced by demons (fallen angels) to do evil or manipulate situations, lives, destinies, etc. Witches are differently packaged from nation to nation; from one geographical area to another.
Some people are witches because they practise witchcraft unknowingly by causing hindrances to other’s progress, witch hunting others to pull them down. There are many bosses and leaders who don’t want to see their subordinates make any progress either in physical or spiritual matters. This is very common among Church leaders. They fret and are jittery as their subordinates make progress or become popular among the laity. All of them are from the same source – the satanic world.
It is glaring that witches are wicked. There is no relationship with the satanic world that is merciful. They may appear soft, loving or caring on the surface but deep down, in the long run, they are wicked. Their major assignment is the collection of blood for the blood bank of the dark world. So, they go about causing accidents, after which the victim’s blood is spiritually transferred into the satanic blood bank.

How can you recognise witches on the street?
Witches operate differently from one country to another. So, to recognise them, one has to understudy them with respect to the locality. Witches do declare openly in some countries while they operate secretly in some other countries. Whichever way they operate, some basic characteristics are common to all of them.
Witches believe and practise manipulations. They manipulate situations, people, the elements, etc to their advantages not minding whose ox is gored. They are known to practise rituals and sacrifices to appease the demons who give them support to do what they do.
They are proud, mean and wicked. They intimidate people and situations. They manipulate others through the use of fear and confusion. They are known for their demonic prophetic divinations e.g palmistry (looking into your future by gazing on your palms especially the left hand and thereby predicting what will happen in the future). They lose their identities and integrities because they must carry out the biddings of their taskmasters in charge of their lives.

They, by demonic powers, do convert themselves or others to animals to carry out a particular assignment or purpose. They are known to be deceptive, isolating their victims from others. They dwell in secrecy; telling their victims not to share what is being done with others, even their closest friends. They are always involved in cultism.
The most reliable way to recognise them anywhere is through the gift of the Spirit of God called discerning of spirits. This is different from discernment. This discerning of spirits is given by the Holy Spirit and not psychology nor through mind control/ reading.
Are there different types of witches?
Yes, there are different types of witches. In the Yoruba belief system, there are white, black and red witches. There are two types of witches: i. Witches as evil powers. ii. Witches as works of the flesh.
Witches as evil powers: This type involves employing and manifesting powers that transcend natural powers. The people involved are possessed, so the demons manifest their supernatural powers through their human victims or agents. They carry out wicked operations mostly against the crown of God’s handiwork – human beings. This type of witch practise magic; they manipulate the senses of their victims not to think rightly so as not to see things and situations as they rightly appear. This type uses demonic or satanic weapons to inflict evil on others.
Witches as works of the flesh – Galatians 5:20. These are Pentecostal witches, prophetic witches, pastoral witches in the Church both in the Old and the New Testaments. Read I Samuel 2:12-17, 27-36. There are many such in the Church to date. II Timothy 3:6. This type is a serious problem in the body of Christ today. This kind carries a death sentence – Exodus 22:18.
There are also different classes of witches:
a. This is witchcraft through inheritance. The victim is demonized, possessed right from his or her DNA. He is not given the grace to choose what he likes
b. Witchcraft through decision
c. The ignorant or blind witches
d. Witches that become witches by force
e. The Pentecostal or Church witches
What is the name of the Spirit working in them?
From Ephesians 6:12, the different hierarchies or satanic governmental levels are enumerated in summary as follows: Principalities, Powers, Rulers of darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places.
The above-mentioned hierarchies have their specialist areas wherein they operate. In this study, we are concerned only with the demons in charge of witches. The principality in charge of witches is not directly linked with the witches because many others are directly responsible to the principality. The principality is also in charge of many other sectional heads like the magical, occult, mystic or metaphysical practices and astrology. This principality is called Belial. Belial is also called god of the planets, or god of fortune or god of the occults. Belial is also in charge of astral travelling and transcendental meditation.
Baalzebub, a power level demon in rank, otherwise known as the lord of the flies, is in charge of witchery and wizardry but he operates under Belial. Baalzebub as the embodiment of satanic cruelty is also in charge of sorcery and necromancy. He is very ferocious; the most aggressive of all demons.
How can a young man searching for a wife avoid marrying a witch?
Generally speaking in Africa, except in some very few isolated places where witchcraft is openly practised, witches don’t openly declare that they are witches. So, it demands special grace for any young man who is searching for a wife or searching for a husband to avoid them. Witches operate more as spiritual entities than natural entities.
To avoid them, therefore, a young man/woman should endeavour to follow these steps:
a. Be born again. This enables you to be led by the Spirit of God and not the spirit of the world or the satanic spirit.
- Be filled with the Spirit of God – be baptised of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God helps the Christian to pray when expected and to pray correctly.
- Pray effectively and wait for God to help you identify who to marry. God knows those who are witches, He will never mislead His children to marry those that are not His.
- Do not base your choice on physical qualities alone. These physical qualities can vanish within seconds.
- After identification, seek confirmation from trusted and godly men of God.
- All the above-mentioned guidelines must be carried out before making your intention known to the young woman. You may not be able to receive objectively from God if you are already having some feelings, likeness or love towards her. Read Ezekiel 14:1-10.
- Avoid being enticed by the lady with any of the following: sex, wealth, beauty, fake spirituality, fake spiritual zealousness. All these are not yardsticks to avoiding marrying the enemy of God.
Do they have men in their circles?
Yes, they have men in their circles that are known as sorcerers. These men are needed among them for certain assignments in each of their covens.
