STOP KILLING SPIDERS AND WALL-GECKOS.
THEY ARE NOT YOUR ENEMIES.
One of the banes of these new generation Churches is their concentration on the power of enemies. They believe the enemies we are fighting are their next neighbours, mother in-laws, enemies like friends in their vicinities, etc.
This is so because majority of the present crop of Christians are not versed in the word of God. If they do, they don’t believe it. In most of these Churches, no prayer is complete without focusing on enemies, satan, devil, warfare, generational curses, etc. They mention these words more than they mention the name of Jesus. These Churches go further to locate agents of the evil in innocent animals and insects like cats, spiders, wall geckos, etc. These creatures of God suffer needless deaths because in our faithless minds, they are sent by someone to injure us.
From them you hear words like cobweb spirits, on which account they kill spiders. Now i hear eating snails is bad because it gives “slow-motion spirit.” There is nothing you will not hear from these Church goers calling themselves Christians. Their minds are warped because some pastors want to feed fat from their spiritual ignorance!
Some years ago, I visited a sister who was still single at 36. All over the wall of her single room were marks of oil. The whole place looks so dirty and irritating. When I asked why is the wall like this? She said she was attacking the wall geckos, spiders and cockroaches sent to attack her. Immediately, I saw reason why no man would marry her till then. No man would enter that room and be comfortable. The first impression you have is this lady is dirty. Now tell me, who is her enemy? The wall gecko, the spider or herself?
A lot of Christians are their own enemies. Rather than mend their ways, they locate portions of the Bible to justify their imagination of enemies. If God kills enemies the way we pray, every mankind would have died. You are an enemy to someone. Someone is an enemy to you. Only those who know Christ have succeeded in eschewing the enemy theory from their systems and this interests God so much. I will cite an example.
At Gibeon, God gave Solomon a blank cheque to fill: Ask for anything you want. Solomon asked for a discerning heart. Wisdom and understanding. The Lord was pleased. 11 So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies…I will even give you what you have not asked for…”
Given same blank Cheque, I have no doubt that top on the priority list of the 21st Century Nigerian Christian would be “Lord, kill all my enemies in my father’s house, in my mother’s house, all ancestral curses by my ancestors…”
These enemies have their usefulness sometimes. It is not all enemies you kill. David said … 5 Thou prepares a table before me in the presence of mine enemies.. Psalm 23:5. Some enemies must be alive so they see the goodness of God in your life.
Christians must be encouraged to focus on the power of God. The Bible says when a man’s ways pleases God He makes his enemies to be at peace with him.” Work on yourself. Not enemies. The devil is not as powerful as we paint him to be. It is not your priority to tell the devil to fall and die. The devil is defeated already. Before you were born, the devil is under your feet. We should stop giving attention to a defeated soul who has but a short time to live.
Please let Spiders live. Let Wall-Geckos live.
