The Bishop of Lagos West Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, The Rt. Rev. James Odedeji has said the church is building on the foundation laid by the former Bishop of the Church, Bishop Peter Awelewa Adebiyi, who retired in 2013 as the pioneer bishop of the diocese.

Odedeji gave the accolade during his presidential address at the 1st Session of the 8th Synod of the Diocese which held on Friday, May 21.

Describing Adebiyi as a committed servant of God, Odedeji said, “We need to appreciate Baba, our dear Bishop Peter Awelewa Adebiyi for his exemplary leadership, and pioneering spirit
in laying the solid foundation on which the Diocese is thriving.

In his retirement, he did not abandon us, but always willing to see us make progress on the foundation already laid.” He then prayed that God will grant him perfect health.

The retired Bishop Adebiyi in a goodwill message read on his behalf by Odedeji at the closing ceremony on Sunday May 23, congratulated the diocese for the successful completion of the Synod.

He expressed thanks to God for making it possible for the diocese to continue the good work that was started at the inception of the diocese.

He prayed that God will continue to bless the diocese. He also thanked Odedeji, his wife Lydia and the entire members of the diocese for being a blessing to him since his retirement. “Am glad Odedeji succeeded me. He started from where we stopped when l retired and he has always been a worthy and dependable successor my welfare has always been his concern. May God bless his Episcopacy”

At the synod, the governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu urged the diocese to continue to pray for peace in the country.

The governor who was represented at the event by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Tayo Ayinde also commended the Body of Christ especially the Lagos West Diocese of the Anglican Communion for their support of government initiatives.
